Mid-Day Meal Program

Nutritional Support

Feeding Minds, Fueling Futures: A Historic Legacy of Nourishment.

Established in 1941, the Vanchi Poor Fund is widely recognized for launching the first organized mid-day meal initiative in India. Conceived by the visionary statesman Sir C.P. Ramaswami Iyer, this program was born from a profound understanding that an empty stomach is the greatest barrier to learning.

What began as an emergency response during wartime to increase school attendance has evolved into a decades-long commitment. We believe that education is the path out of poverty, but nutrition is the fuel for that journey. By ensuring children are fed, we ensure they stay in school and build independent futures.

No child should go hungry while trying to learn.

Every school day, Vanchi Poor Fund provides nutritious meals to underprivileged schoolchildren across Thiruvananthapuram. This program does more than just alleviate hunger; it keeps children healthy, focused, and present in the classroom. This pioneering model laid the groundwork for similar welfare programs adopted across the nation, proving that community care can transform society.
